S06E017, Change Is Good, No Really! Andy B 2 Minute Video

I like change. Actually, I love change! Change is the variety of life. However, while I really like it, I do sometimes forget to duck.

Ever bought a replacement car? You put some things in the boot (trunk), go to stand up and you crack your head on the boot – all because the new car doesn’t open as high as the last one.

It doesn’t matter how happy you are with your new vehicle! Forget to adapt to the change, and you’ll likely have a headache metaphorically or physically!

There are some people who are simply, stubbornly, resistant to change. They need to be challenged and, sometimes, forced to accept a change. There are others who may simply be wary of change because they’ve banged their head too may times.

Let’s show a little compassion and be gentle with those who are right to struggle. And exercise that same level of compassion with the resistant ones too.

Just a thought...

[00:00:00] So another Andy B two minute video. Let me say this, Change Is Good.

[00:00:13] I heard a story a long time ago which I can easily believe is not made up. It was about a man who was training to become a vicar, a minister, so he was a curate, he was a vicar in training. And at his church one morning he was asked to do something. So he moved a chair at the front of the church to make it less dangerous.

[00:00:32] That chair was moved back and he was very, very badly remonstrated by some of the congregation. Don't you dare move those chairs. This is how it's been, this is how it always will be. So, over the course of weeks and months, he moved the chair an inch at a time. No one noticed. Until he got a chair where he wanted it.

[00:00:52] Sometimes we need to take baby steps, and it's not worth fighting people to get what even might be right. But here's the thing [00:01:00] about change. It can, it can catch you like a slap to the head, like a door to the back of the head. That is what change can do even if it's a good change that you're ready for.

[00:01:10] Andy B 2 Minute Videos, they're 2 minutes 59 or less. The last little load that I did, they were all going over by three or four seconds, and I couldn't work out why. Nothing's changed. I've got a timer that gives me three minutes so I know exactly how long I can speak for. Except for the fact that the little video thing at the start of these videos, I switched that to a different one, which was about five seconds longer, and I hadn't really been aware of that.

[00:01:37] I wanted to change it. I looked at all the times. I did everything correctly, but I forgot to adapt the timer that I used, to ensure that these are two minutes, 59 or less. So if I speak at two minutes something, then I've got enough time to speak and it's, it's the right length, and I did everything, but I forget to change the timer.

[00:01:56] Change is really, really good. It's really, really good! [00:02:00] But don't forget when you change something that things are going to need to adapt. Like people who put in a new staircase, or wear a different pair of shoes, go to take the first step on the staircase, now they've got a 3 inch sole rather than a 1 inch sole and they trip over the step.

[00:02:15] Why? Because something has changed, but they haven't adapted as a result. And that's life, isn't it?

[00:02:22] How many doors have we had closed on us because we expected something to happen?

[00:02:25] We've got a soft, closed toilet seat. When you push it down, it slowly falls down. One of them, there's two of them, a pair, one of them's broken. So, when you when you push the one down, it's nice and gentle. Push the other one down and it just crashes down onto the toilet. It used to work, but over time it's become less effective.

[00:02:42] Change Is Good! But be willing and ready to adapt as a result.

[00:02:47] Just a thought.
