S05E086, When It Keeps On Coming, Andy B 2 Minute Video
Have you ever heard a strange noise coming from a piece of machinery? We have had exactly that experience fro the past few weeks. Our lawnmower has been working harder and harder, and achieving less and less. Grass has been hacked rather than mown, and more is left behind that collected in the grass box.
And that noise kept getting worse. It was kind of a screaming, whining, terrified sound.
And then it went quiet. And that lawnmower had reached the end of it’s life.
We’d got is super cheap – just £5 at a charity shop. That was a bargain as it has lasted AGES. But, all good things must come to an end and, despite a fresh blade to help it cut more efficiently, it ceased to function anymore.
Mind you, the terrified noise stopped too, so that was good!
At some point we’ll buy a new one to replace it. But, until then, we have a permanent reminder of that fateful day because half our garden is short. The other half, well, let’s just say it is awaiting attention!
It’s been a super busy season for the BerryBunch, so the idea of sourcing and selecting and a replacement had been left untouched for nearly a month. That has just allowed the grass to grow even longer.
Our garden now looks quite a mess – it’d be easy for someone to look at it and make a judgement on how lazy we were, or whatever might go through their minds.
Have you ever done that? Seen something and immediately made judgement? Let’s be quicker to ask a question and offer help, than to make a half-cocked assessment on something we know little about.
The up-side of our situation? We haven’t had to mow the grass for a while.
Just a thought...

[00:00:00] So another Andy B Two Minute Video, and I wanna talk about a broken lawnmower.
[00:00:13] Now we have this lawnmower. It cost us five quid in a charity shop. It was functional, it worked fine. It's been getting more and more tired! We've had some houses with large gardens, which really this little tiny, teeny mower is not up to the job of handling. And in our current home, the grass is so lush and so thick, it's given up and it's died.
[00:00:34] We have a permanent reminder of the fact that it's died because the grass on one half the garden is really low. And on the other half of the garden, it's really tall, cause we couldn't finish the garden off.
[00:00:43] I could use a strimmer, but it's a lot of grass and I really don't fancy doing that. So at some point we have to invest in a new mower.
[00:00:49] Now, do you ever feel like, in life, things just keep coming, and coming, and coming, and it's like knock after knock, after blow, after blow, and you're thinking, I can't cope with this anymore.
[00:00:59] [00:01:00] We have a permanent reminder of our mower having broken, but it's not the end of the world. It just means we've got grass that's a little bit longer than we'd like it to be, and it needs to be cut. At some point we'll get it sorted. But the problem was I didn't wanna have time to even look at buying one, let alone actually physically go and purchase one because we've been so busy as a family, because we had a festival, which was brilliant. But all our focus, all our energy was put in that way.
[00:01:24] Sometimes, in life, we just need to take a little bit of peace at the face we can't do everything. Things are gonna come, they're gonna go wrong. We can't control every single nuance in our life.
[00:01:36] We have a garden that's now too long. It's a reminder that something's gone wrong. We didn't break it, it died. There's two ways of looking at it. I can look at it and think the mower's dead. Look at the grass. Gotta buy a new one.
[00:01:47] Or I can think, do you know what? We spent five quid on a mower, about seven, eight years ago, maybe nine years ago. It's lasted for nine, ish years. And apart from changing the blade a couple of times, it's cost us [00:02:00] nothing to run. So it's a good thing. It's lasted ages. So I'm gonna be looking out for another five quid mower. I may well not find one.
[00:02:07] So often in life we have the wrong perspective, don't we? We see the long grass and think, gosh, what a failure. That person's obviously failed to mow their grass, aren't they lazy? Gosh, it's terrible! And we don't see the full picture, do we? We don't see the fact that person's got no money, or they've been really busy, or they've fallen down, or they just can't find a mower, or they need a car and they can't actually get to a shop to buy one.
[00:02:29] Let's not be quick to judge. When we see a long garden with sort of a, a garden with long grass, it may be no fault the person involved. Ours isn't!
[00:02:38] Just a thought.
