S05E082, Keep On Going, Andy B Minute Video
In the film, Inside Out, we see an image of how emotions develop in the brain of a new born, through to old age. We see the importance of emotions, and why Joy – a main character in the film – is not the most important emotion.
We love the film as a family because it reminds us of the importance of caring for our emotions; of listening to them and valuing them.
The problem with emotions, however, is that – at best – they should only be seen as a temperature gauge. And, just like any temperature gauge, they need to be kept in check because they can give us a distorted view of reality, especially if we allow them to control our actions.
In a race the driver of a car knows how many laps they need to complete the race. Finishing first is great. However, sometimes, just finishing the race can be an accomplishment. And it is the same in life. Some days just seem to stretch away from you as you move through them as 5pm never seems to get any closer.
As Christians our journey of faith consists, largely, of putting one foot in front of the other as we move towards Jesus. And, if we make becoming more like Jesus Christ our goal, rather than ‘finishing’ we’ll enjoy life a whole lot more.
So, don’t let your emotions get the better of you, and keep moving towards Jesus trusting that He has all you need for you to do all that He has for you to do.

[00:00:00] So another Andy B Two Minute Video, and I'm thinking about Keeping On Going and, and how do we get motivated? What, what sustains that motivation?
[00:00:17] Now, if you're running a race, running a marathon, you've got a finished line in sight. So your motivation is to get to the end, and you do what you can and you can see the end. Okay, it might be 20 miles away, but you know that there's an end. You can see it. There's a big thing that says finish line normally. It's pretty obvious.
[00:00:32] Whether you are driving a Formula One car. You, you know that there's only so many laps you've gotta do with that particular circuit, and that's the finish.
[00:00:40] And sometimes as Christians it's like, where's the finish? Well, it's when you die. Well, that's a bit depressing. That's not a very exciting way to look at life. But, actually, it is an exciting way. We'll come back to that another time maybe. But sometimes just Keeping On Going is really hard.
[00:00:54] Jeff Lucas is quite a well-known preacher from the UK, was a pastor over here [00:01:00] in a, in the States as well where he's an amazing preacher. But he often talks about the mundane of life. The fact that most of life is just getting up and going through the day and then, and going to bed again. That, that actually is quite normal. But we, we kind of want those highs and those exciting moments, but quite often a lot of life is just going through the motions almost.
[00:01:20] It's getting up, having breakfast, going to work, going to school, going to college, getting some shopping done, getting the food done, sitting down, having dinner, and, and then probably getting some more work done and going to bed. That's normal and that's okay. But what motivates us to keep going when it's that kind of stuff going on?
[00:01:37] And what struck me was we've just come back from a festival, our first exhibiting as the BerryBunch family, which was really exciting. But we've met people who are really excited by what it is that we do. Now we've been going for three years doing this six years full-time ministry before that. In one way or another I've been in ministering for 35 years. I was 10 years old when I started playing a keyboard in a church. From 15 leading [00:02:00] worship in that church.
[00:02:01] My life has been revolving around church for a long time in terms of what I do. So what keeps me going has changed over time. But one of the things that I wanted to share is whatever it is that you are doing, don't do it for your kingdom, do it for God's kingdom!
[00:02:17] One of the things that I often talk about is that happiness is overrated. Happiness comes and happiness goes. It's a feeling. And feelings come and they go, and they can be very strong and then they can disappear. But joy comes from a relationship with God. And it's always sustaining. And it's always there if we choose to keep on worshiping God
[00:02:35] Don't you allow your emotions to dictate your life, but keep on going in what you're doing. And if God's calling you to do it, keep going for Him, for His kingdom and not for yours.
[00:02:46] Just a thought.
