S05E014, Helpers are Helpful! Andy B 2 Minute Video
When life throws you something you weren’t expecting, it’s always a good idea to get some help!
Sometimes those helpers can do no more than just listen to whatever it is you are struggling with. But, they can also have some wisdom – especially if they have also been through something similar.
Our initial reaction is something we really don’t have much say about. It’s mostly from who we are.
For example, when disaster strikes my wife is simply brilliant She isn’t fazed at all! Later on, she will reflect…and maybe cry over what happened early.
Me? Well, I crumble first! Like a chocolate tea pot.
It’s mostly how I’m made up – but I’m also brilliant later on.
I wonder who you’re more like?
Anyway, if you, like me, know that dealing with disasters is not your strong suit, then it’s best to seek help sooner rather than later. I know, from past experience, that I’m not all that good at praying off the bat. But, I am pretty good at asking others to pray instead. And that means more people are praying into whatever has goner wrong. And, that, is no bad thing!
Prayer is great. Helpers are great. So, get some helpers to pray! Then, they can check on you afterwards too.

So, another Andy B 2 Minute Video. And I was thinking about life throws us some curveballs. Maybe that doesn't necessarily work for you as a phrase. You ever been knocked sideways? Imagine, you're walking down one particular path and some't happens. It kind of slams you against a wall. Well, that's something that happened for us over the weekend. We discovered something that was not exactly what we thought was going to happen. Something quite dramatically different to that. And my first reaction, and really our first reaction was, this is this is really bad. This is really serious. How are we going to get through this? We'd been thrown to the wall, we'd been thrown a curveball, something came at us from an angle we weren't expecting, and it, kind of, took us out.
0:50
Now, to be fair, I'm not the greatest to deal with that kind of stuff. My wife is. She tends to reflect a bit later. Her initial thing is great and then she might stumble a bit afterwards. But me, personally, when something really bad happens, I'm not Jo. I'm not that calm. I'm not that peaceful. I kind of go into a panic mode of, we're never going to survive this. How are we going to cope? And that's where we were Friday night, Saturday.
1:14
We had a busy of filming, which was really, really good fun. But always there was this nagging thought of, yeah, but we're not gonna make it. We're not going to make it. This has changed. This is really hard. But actually, God was already ahead of that. And what I did immediately was rally the troops.
1:30
So, I sent a prayer request to a few people that we absolutely, implicitly trust. And I said, please, we need some prayer. I explained the situation. And they prayed for us.
1:39
Knowing that there's someone praying for you can change everything. Knowing that there's somebody out there somewhere, who cares about you enough to take some of their time to pray, is beyond helpful.
1:51
Now, they're not all gonna be able to help us through our situation. But what they can do is pray, and they can sympathise, and they can, they can comfort us through words, and through prayer, and through scripture, and that's what we've been getting.
2:04
When things come along, then they throw you against a wall you can't really help your first reaction. Yeah, you can work on it to some extent, but that initial reaction, that's kind of part of your character. But it's that next bit. How do you then respond?
2:20
If you get thrown against the wall, your first reaction is to respond to being thrown against a wall, but what do you do next?
2:26
Mercifully, gratefully, thankfully I got people to pray, because I knew I wouldn't do a great job of it. So if someone asks a prayer, pray for them. If you're struggling, reach out for help. Helpers are really helpful so get help from other folks. Get some prayer.
